Because it really is personal…

I did it!

We had guests for supper last night, and I made these mmmm delicious roasted potatoes and didn’t eat a single one. In fact, I was so busy talking and having fun and drinking this delicious white wine they brought that I didn’t even notice that I didn’t get a potato. Delicious wine, is allowed on my diet. I was CERTAIN alcohol was forbidden, since everything else that matters is. But, it’s NOT! Not even vodka, which is supposedly made from potatoes! I looked it up, and all the stuff I could find just said “don’t drink and drive” and all those other standard warnings.

So I suppose the trick to not missing potatoes is to have people over, or get pasted. Oh! Bless them! They brought a blueberry pie for dessert, and guess what! I can have blueberries! Life is certainly looking up.

These are more people who are moving here from Chicago. The Chicago Operations of the company Terry works for has closed, and many of the people are moving here. Many of them are Native Chicagoans, and are a little fearful of moving Down South, like it’s a strange country or something, and I am having them for dinner and spending time with them, to help them feel a little more at ease about it all. The people we had last night are actually Native Bostonians By Way of Chicago, and only know of the South what they’ve read in National Geographic. So…I kinda had my work cut out for me, helping them understand the only difference, really, is our accents and the way we fix okra. Nice people, funny accents, but really nice. David took #4 to Xaxby’s for chicken wings (with a $10 additional bribe) so, it was just us grownups. It is good to have an (mostly) adult child. Unfortunately, they’re going back Sunday, and will miss The Fair Parade.

So, Potatoes didn’t do me in! I’ve gone 2 entire days on this diet, a little spare, it has been, as I don’t have it entirely figured out yet, but I haven’t died of Potato Deprivation Disorder. The salt issue hasn’t bothered me, since I’m not big on salty stuff normally anyway (except during That Time Of The Month, when I require the chips and cheetoes…I don’t know what I’m going to do…). I just have to get a handle on the Potassium Issue, and AP has been worth her weight in (forbidden, contraband) chocolate where that’s concerned.
