Quiet day, involving a trip to the orthopod (Terry’s arm is healing nicely, his ego has taken a hit tho. All this sitting around is getting to him), a trip to the grocery (healthy noshies for Terry and me, because we’re aren’t going to get any skinnier with all this sitting around), a couple of walks around the yard, laughing at the dogs and cats. Tacos for supper. A very pedestrian, middle class sort of day. So far. I’ve had plenty of time to think, but chose not to use it so. I could have spent time upstairs in my tiny “studio” working on a sculpture. The goal is to have a nice big nativity done by Christmas, but it’s hard to think about Christmas stuff in mid July, but if I don’t get cracking on it I won’t have it done in time. So far I have the angel done, and a list of the other characters. But who thinks of Christmas in July except those compulsive types who have all their shopping done by October? Those are the same people that buy all their gifts in January, hitting the after Christmas sales and storing it in a closet until needed.
That used to be me. No longer. Now, I wait until after Thanksgiving to decide what I want and get it then. Viva la Ebay! I wait until November 1 to start sculpting, because I have to be In The Mood. It’s not laziness or anything, I just decided to try something different from the SOP.
I started drinking rum, too. The expensive kind. Because I wanted to. It’s grand mixed with Buffalo Rock, or lemonade. Because I wanted to try something different, and it annoys my psychiatrist. It also smooths the jagged edges of my id when the kids are misbehavin’. Ok, it’s not like I drink it every day, just once in a while when I’m needing something more than New Age music or a grilled cheese sandwich for my nerves.
But my nerves are fine today. I’m not tense at all. The Problem Chylde isn’t around causing Problems, and I probably won’t see him all weekend. My plans for the weekend involve taking care of Terry, weeding the garden (joy!) and chopping up fresh vegs for Low Fat Healthy Noshies (great with homemade hummus, gonna try making homemade peanut butter, too, as we both need to cut back on the salt).
Here’s a recipe for you, I got the idea from my friend Janet many years ago. You can decorate your tacos with it, or taco salad, or use it as a dip for corn chips or vegs. I slightly modified it to make it Low Fat:
1 cup fat free Ranch dressing*
1 cup salsa (I use Herde as it’s thinner, less chunky, and lower in salt than Pace or other brans)
1 cup fat free sour cream
Blend it all together and chill
*fat free ranch dressing: 1 cup fat free mayonnaise, 1 cup skim milk, 1 package Original Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing mix, blend together and chill to thicken
The recipe makes a tub full, but it keeps a while.
