Savannah Scottish Games
May 6, 2008 by rootietoot
Last Saturday, we went to the Savannah scottish Games, where I took pictures, ate scones with strawberries and cream, and kept half an eye on #4, as he’d spent his allowance on a wooden sword and shield. Sweet Daddio came along, mostly to humor me, I think, since he’s Irish. I kept looking at all these men in their kilts, thinking how much better SD looks in one than these fellows with their uniformly skinny shanks. Alas, the fabric needed to make the right sort of kilt for a County Kildare kilt runs along the lines of *eep* $100 a yard, and needing 8 yards. So, SD in a kilt will just have to remain a fantasy. Oh well.
Here we go.

Cool - I love your pictures from the Scottish Games. You always find interesting characters to photograph.
Hope you enjoyed your birthday - despite the hungry monsters prowling about trying to ruin your mood.
Thinking of you.
After watching a mixed-gender drum and bagpipe band march by, Rootietoot asked “Is a Scottish Lass wearing a kilt considered a cross-dresser?”
Thank you for the pic of men in skirts. Feel free to post more of them at any time.
Love a man in a kilt. My husband who is Irish purchased a kilt last year. It is called a Utili-kilt and has more pockets than my purse. It cost around $175, but damn it makes his legs look good.
Please post as many pictures as you can.
Nice photos, but I love the Spanish moss best of all!!!!
IM- lots of men there were wearing utilikilts- and yes, they looked good in them It seemed a certain *type* of fellow wore them- you wouldn’t see my dad in one, but SD with his height and general physical presence would do one nicely. But not in Statesboro. Statesboro isn’t ready for that.
LabMunkay- It’s not a skirt. It’s a kilt. I saw a man wearing a t-shirt that read “It’s a kilt. If I were wearing something under it then it would be a skirt.”
Custom allows lassies in pipe bands to wear kilts.
Pipe bands wear kilts, so the lassies in pipe bands should wear kilts.
Thank you for your pictures of the Savannah games.
The athletes were incredible. My favorite was the sheaf toss, which is in the bottom picture. All of them are a mix of brute strength and finesse. My back was sore Saturday night just from watching!
Do you think anyone would be upset if I showed up in a County Kildare tartan? I mean, it is the Scottish games after all.
Beautiful photos!!
I don’t think anyone would say anything, SD, except maybe me and it would be all vociferous affirmation.
